Follow by email FUBAR

I am one of those people who is quite happy to use blogs and the internet, but have no idea how they work. So there is a problem with Follow by Email on this blog but I don’t know how to fix it.

The problem is this: if you follow this blog by email, you will get an email every time I post something, which is quite often and quite erratic. Even if I schedule all my posts to appear the next morning at 8am, if I have written four things, you will get four emails, rather than just one update. Annoying! Inefficient!

I do not want to write just one long post and schedule it to post it in the morning, because I think long blog posts are boring to read and, more important, they are complicated to write because you have to link thing together: “Speaking of pens, my favourite cake right now is…” and so on.

So my advice to you, if you would like to keep in regular touch with The Spike, is to unfollow by email – (unless you’re one of those people who doesn’t mind a clogged inbox) – if you even followed in the first place, and bookmark me.

The plan at the moment is to schedule everything I have written to appear the next morning at 8am. This way by the time you’re ready to sit down and read something, after drop-off or as you arrive at your desk, there will be a few items on The Spike – as well as MailOnline.

I’m happy to receive multiple e-mails from your blog. In fact, I subscribe to many blogs, just so I get lots of mail. It makes me feel all important and loved. Look my inbox is full !
In all seriousness, I use one of the emails (the rest gets deleted straight away) to get me into your blog and read all what’s new.
I guess the people who really are important and loved will appreciate your post. 😉

I’m more than happy too. Easy enough to unclog one’s “inbox” fairly swiftly. :0)

why don’t you use Mail Chimp? The basic level is free and you can set it up to deliver your posts once a day, regardless of how many you write in a day. Google the Mail Chimp plug in for WordPress. Once it is set up, you don’t need to do anything ever again.

    – umm I quite like getting the email about each post… As I’m working throughout the day I can look and see ‘oh another post that’s for coffee break’ and so on and it keeps me going – plus if I have had a busy day then I don’t miss any and can catch up at home time (well once the baby is finally in bed)

I follow you on the Feedly app…best app!! You just shove in all the blogs you love and it sends you updates all in one place. It’s brilliant, can highly recommend.

Came here to say the same thing – everyone should use Feedly!

Although I still mourn the loss of Google Reader 🙁

Actually I find your e-mails such a change from the usual shite that gets into my inbox that, if you don’t mind I shall continue to follow by e-mail!

Hmmmm, I’m still getting just the one mass email so maybe it’s only certain providers?
