The truest thing of all the true things written by the Sex and the City scriptwriters – before they went completely insane while writing SATC2 – was the observation that the two options for girls at Hallowe’en are
- Sexy cat
- Witch
Although they missed out a third option, which is 3. Sexy witch.
So imagine my delight last year when Kitty decided that she wanted to go trick or treating dress as… A PUMPKIN! Ha ha, no gender stereotyping for my little North London tomboy.
And this year she still wants to be a pumpkin! So I’m beside myself. She also wants Sam to be a pumpkin but I can’t imagine he’ll agree to that, so I reckon he will be Fireman Sam.
I think Sam kind of thinks he is Fireman Sam already because he watches so much of it (he’s always telling me that there’s an emergency and asking me where Station Officer Steele is).
But that doesn’t stop me from researching other excellent kids’ costumes, just in case one day Kitty demands to be a sexy witchy cat and I need to come up with a swift alternative:

I particularly like how this costume is not only creepy but also a comment on the fetishisation of a) little girls 2) “perfection” in the modern post-feminist society. Or something.
The last one gets my vote. The Gitane girl, looking very serious and old before her time. That’s scary enough for Halloween, isn’t it.
yes. creepy
OMG mini Frida! That’d Joni’s costume sorted. She’s already got the mono brow.
