Best foundations

Everyone thinks their foundation is the best, like everyone thinks their way of stacking the dishwasher, or packing the shopping, is best.

But in case you are unsatisfied with your daily complexion fixer, let me recommend to you my favourites. They are all light, but give good coverage. If you’ve got a major zit, you’ll probably need extra concealer. I tend to go for lighter foundations as I’ve got freckles and if you splatter foundation over them in the manner of a plasterer doing up a basement conversion, it looks totally weird.

Bourjois 10 hour sleep effect – absolutely terrific. India Knight has also written about how good this is in Style. It smells like hope.

A bit expensive, at around £24, but this is the best of the light BB creams I’ve tried

This, from Benefit, is more of a primer than a foundation and it’s for days when your skin is in good nick and you just want and overall “blurring” effect. It has a slightly strange moussey consistency and will matt out your skin – if that’s a thing you’re after, which I mostly am, being a walking human oil slick.

Okay, so stupid question – does BB come in different colours? I’ve never seen such a thing.

Aha, just had a nose on the Space NK website. For a couple of the brands, BB cream comes in two shades – fair and medium (although Kiehls only seem to do it in one shade).

CC cream (whatever that is) comes in a bunch of different shades. I have no idea how that is different to BB cream – heavier maybe?

CC cream is short for “colour correcting” cream if that helps. No idea what BB stands for. God my knowledge blows me away…

I thought it meant blemish banisher but looking at an advert for one it says beauty balm underneath the BB

Hello there (from South Africa, natch!) So, I’m placing a Boots order thanks to your enabling ways, but am wondering about the colour of the Bourjois 10 Hour Sleep Effect. Which did you go for? (I’m pale, freckly, and red head!).. Thanks 🙂
