Continuing on the theme of my obsession with Pippa Middleton’s much-dismissed, ghost-written book, (if only because I think it makes me seem eccentric), I have slavishly copied the birthday breakfast table idea here for Kitty’s 5th birthday breakfast. Did I do it for her or for me? It’s a toss-up.
It is dark outside because I set the table the night before. Later, I tied a pink helium balloon to each chair. I don’t mean to sound like an arsehole but it looked fucking amazing. Kitty loved it. I loved it more.
The secret to doing a table like this is collecting same-coloured junk from all over the house and sticking it all on the table whether it is relevant or not. I mean, to an extent – do not go rushing for your pink Clarisonic or fuchsia high heeled shoes. So I have included on the table a pink teddybear, a watering can and little dolly. All the presents were wrapped in pink paper, pink tulips in a vase and a pink party tablecloth from Party Pieces, which I only bought because the Middletons were on my mind, but it is actually really good and totally re-useable. I recommend it. I put strawberries in little pink zig zag party pots. Strawberries?! In February? They tasted horrible. But they looked fab.
It doesn’t have to be pink, of course. It could be blue, silver, purple, green – whatever. If someone did me a birthday breakfast table like this I would die. I’d actually be dead. Like I said, it’s a moot point who the real beneficiary of this little exercise was.
Looks amazing. Love the cake tin in the window!
So pretty!!
The table looks lovely, I’m not surprised Kitty loved it- I wonder if a three year old boy would get the same pleasure out of it?!
Did I also spot you’d been a super organised and amazing mother and got a card on Cbeebies? I think they say your long term memories start to kick in properly from around 4/5 – and I imagine Kitty will remember this birthday forever as sounds/looks like you made it a magical day. 10/10!
Nancy who cares if your 3yo boy likes it?? it’s for YOU. it’s fun!! blue table cloth, blue bear, blue truck? blue train?? go mad xxx
I’ve done this for my daughters for years and I absolutely love it, luckily so do they so the birthday breakfast is a tradition in our house now. Your table looked lovely and you can feel smug because you gave Kitty a fab start to her day! X
My God, I would actually be dead too. To be fair my mum always does me a birthday tea with a table spread like this… (Erm, I am 34, but I APPRECIATE IT and would throw a tantrum if it stopped happening) But to wake up to this gloriousness… Oh my word! <3 Happy birthday Kitty X
I love this so much. I always crack out the balloons and table decs ( now with champers obviously). Especially for my girlfriends birthday lunches and we are now in our 50’s !
You got me at pink Clarisonic. Helium balloons always manage to do it, don’t they :-))
So gorgeous!!! Happy Birthday Kitty!!! And well done that mum! xx
Happy 5th birthday Kitty! The table looks truly ace and it’s a far cry form my childhood memories of waking up to find a blow-up birthday cake sitting on the toilet seat (my mum knew my morning routine a little TOO well!). Have a great day xx
How lovely.
Aw – she has the same birthday as my 5yo Serena! Was all about unicorns and pink in our house. Discovered that sainsburys do a readymade & decorate your own cake. Lifesaver!
Saw this on Twitter, thought it entirely awesome and am going to do the same thing when Boy turns 4.5 on 25th. Husband will groan and roll his eyes but hey, they’re only small once and him starting school has been so hard for me, a little bit of magic is just what we need over here xx
get yourself to party pieces stat!!! xxxx
I love the Pippa book too, as does my sister in law. We once did the whole Burns Supper thing using her book, screeching ‘WHAT WOULD PIPPA DO???’ every time we got stuck (clearly we’d been at the whisky by that stage).
Pippa would go ski-ing though, that’s the problem
