- Sam and I have been reading Big Digger, ABC together for a few weeks and his letters are really coming along thanks to it. Though he may just be memorising the book and not actually able to recognised individual letters – I have not independently tested his knowledge. The good thing about having a child who is fanatical about anything (diggers, princesses, Thomas the Tank Engine and so on) is that you can exploit the fanaticism to your own ends. Kitty was never fanatical about anything – it was tricky.
2. I just got this personalised backpack for my, (okay Giles’s), god-daughter Dory. It’s fabulous and she loves it. I think it’s very important that girls know they can be superheroes, too. They might not want to, but it’s good to know that they can. For at least 18 months I was She-Ra. In my mind. It made the commute to work much more amusing.
On a side note, as the years go on I am more and more outraged and peeved that I have been afforded no godchildren of my own. What is it about me?! Tell me honestly! (Don’t.)

I feel your outrage about a lack of godchildren. I have one (only one!) and I am the best flipping godmother imaginable, as I can make anything into a competitive sport. Friends of mine have godchildren in double digits and I want to snap pencils when I hear them complaining about the burden. I can ever offer a bit of God – I run the church youth group, for heaven’s sake – though maybe extra God is not what people seek, ahem.
Oooh GREAT bag. Bought one immediately for my goddaughter’s birthday. Thank you for scouting that out. If it makes you feel any better, I am a shit godmother, but she’s only 3 and I had a baby pretty much straight after I was awarded the status. The bag will make up for it.
I was similarly God-childless for ages (is it ‘coz I is an atheist?) and then I got three in quick succession. Like buses…
Love the bag. Godchildren are great before you have your own children. And it is lovely to be asked but I just feel massive anxiety and guilt about mine – forgetting to post presentsin time, not being able to attend their first holy communion at 9am in Exeter…
Thanks. That’s my two nieces 5th birthday presents sorted. You really are very helpful!
Susannah I try, honestly I do x
