Well, I’m not sure how great this all is, really. I do like Alexa Chung, I think she is stylish and I also like M&S, but this all feels a bit desperate. There are only two pieces in this whole collection that I can say for sure that I really “want” – this Eliza dress:

£45
… and this blue crew neck sweater:

£35
But, do you know – the Eliza dress is a tricky one because it’s such a distinctive print that I’d l kind of feel a bit embarrassed about wearing something that is so obviously from somewhere. And the navy crew neck is just because I’ve already got one – from J Crew – and love it and could always make room in my wardrobe for another.
I don’t know. I don’t hate the clothes I’m just not that inspired by them. Perhaps I just lack imagination. But what I do know is that all of these are still very much in stock, whereas the Boden icons collection is absolutely and totally sold out in seemingly all colours and sizes. Don’t ask me why! I just print the news.
I’ve just ordered the Eliza dress – I will probably look like a demented fool and I live in Wales so where on earth would I wear it but I just WANTED IT
Georgie you are going to look fab in it x
Totes agree. It’s pretty boring and the things that do look a bit quirky like the Harry top would be ok if you haven’t got big boobs like me. Think Alexa, as much as she pisses me off, could’ve been a bit braver.
The problem with that Eliza dress, in my view, is it has a massive tie back. Nothing makes a dress look cheaper, as if they couldn’t be bothered to fit it properly.
I know it’s not the done thing to criticise Alexa (obviously she is gorgeous & stylish) but I think everyone thought she alone could make their old clothes fashionable. I rushed on to the site and it all looked soooo boring save the frilly blouses, which only models can pull off anyway. What a waste. Much prefer the old Kate Moss for Topshop stuff I am still wearing 8 years on…
yes kate moss for TopShop – now THAT was a collection…
I looked at Alexa stuff yesterday in Oxford St M&S. I had my eye on the red dress but the material is shiny and horrid and it has a fussy bit of smocking or similar at front. Not great. The rest of range looks dull and unflattering to me. Hideous pair of black sandals. Alexa is going to look good in anything anyway.
Perhaps the icons are all gone because people were sad to miss out on the “Broden” range where Boden promised a new hipster range for men only available on 1 April – enjoyed that email though on balance prefer their 40% off ones!
Just had a quick browse online- I’m sorry but that white ‘Harry’ dress looks fucking ridiculous! 😂
Yes. I actually laughed out loud at that one.
Even the models look frumpy and miserable in the clothes. No hope for the rest of us!
This is really bitchy but I used to work with two of the senior buyers that might have helped developed this range. They are two of the most deeply unstylish people ever and are also happen to be total cows. Not surprised M&S can’t get their ranges sorted out if they have these two in senior positions. It’s weird how sometimes the most untalented people are the most successful. Can you tell I’m in a shit mood this morning?
Emma you wouldn’t need to be in a shit mood to be annoyed by this sort of thing. I have OFTEN marvelled at how certain untalented people get so far – but the fact is that in a corporate or office setting some people simply do better than others due to factors unrelated to talent: networking, insane hard work, long hours, shady morals and so on. It’s annoying.
It’s so annoying! Not only because they must be earning a fortune (by retail standards M&S pay big) but also because we the clothes buying public are subjected to minging clothes collections.
Bought Eliza dress today. Love it on although because of my fat back, I am wearing it as a shirt/tunic with leggings and short skirt… Much better quality and look than on photos. Also treated myself to Bodens Icon dress for £195 (hot sweats all week 😑) but has not yet arrived. Have nowhere to wear it anyway so maybe will send back…
I think Alex Jones is wearing that Eliza dress on the One show right now, not sure about it….doesn’t look very comfy…
Alex Jones is wearing it on The One Show tonight
says everything
I like this dress but have to agree – nothing was grabbing me. I did feel like you needed Alexa’s body shape to wear it all too, and who has that?
