Sorry guys, I’ve just like… fumbled the catch on this one and I’ve got no post of substance today. I’ve been caught up with prep for Little Sam’s third birthday, which is TODAY, and also getting too excited about Series 3 of Peaky Blinders, which premiered last night, which is one of my all-time favourite shows.

So instead I’ve just got this here picture of Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby. And a note to not forget this weekend about an SPF for your lips! I burn my lips at some point every summer and it’s awful and it takes ages to recover. The best SPF lip balm is this one by Ultrasun.

Have a good sunny weekend! I will be potty-training Sam – I cannot put it off any longer in good conscience and Clare Rayner once told me it was alright to wait until they were 3 – and so I will simply be awash with piss.

Think of me as you sip rose in your sun-dappled gardens, you utter bitches xxxx

I stood next to him at the Imperial War Museum once and had to stare as he was so beautiful – which was awful as he was with wife and kids. He is so teeny tiny though I could have popped him in my pocket and stolen him.

Happy Birthday Sam! I waited until 3 with both of mine…much more sensible as they can go straight on the loo (with one of those little seat thingies). Also the sun is shining so he can run around your garden with no undercrackers on while you sup pink wine. Win win.

My son trained at 3 and a couple of months, relatively easily. Cracked it in a few days with minimal accidents. I only fervently wish that had been our first attempt, it was the earlier times when he clearly wasn’t ready and had no idea what I was on about that I regret and which almost broke me as a human being. My daughter is 2 and is already changing her own nappies so I’m going to give it a gentle go in the summer holidays, because she’s practically there anyway, but by golly listen to Clare Rayner. I’ve never seen Peaky Blinders and have a ton of Chapstick so here I am talking about piss.

Good luck! I’ve just potty trained my daughter and am now pondering what to do with the *lovely* nappy change table. Perhaps we’ll use it to store toys? Perhaps one day it could be a sort of drinks trolley without wheels? There are a whole load of possibilities.

Three? I have given potty training exactly zero thought so far, obviously way too early, but three? Are you telling me I have potentially another 20 months of shitty nappies? Shoot me now.

    Happy birthday Sam!! Elaine x

No Elaine of course not! You can potty train whenever you like. Kitty was VERY hard to potty train and I am so traumatised by it that I’ve been putting it off with Sam x

Some wise woman once told me boys potty train best at 3yrs 3 months. Was spot on for my 2 boys. My daughter did it before she was 2. Boys eh….

Perfect time to potty train with this weather- we spent the weekend in our tiny garden when potty training my eldest (now 16!) making him the official plant/flower waterer really helped! Not sure the plants loved being covered in so much pee though?! Also – am sure you have but have you got a ton of exciting brand new pants that he will be dying to get on?! oh and lots of chocolate buttons – bribery was/is an essential part of childcare in my experience…. Have a fab weekend !

Thanks Martha. He got a shedload of pants for his birthday – Fireman Sam and cars and trucks pants – and I’ve got all sorts of other bribes, too! x

We got lucky with eldest, he used to take his nappy off at night, so he was done by 3. Middle one took longer (5 yr age gap), but he was ok by 3 and a bit. Youngest is close in age to middle one and has seen him going to the potty / toilet so wants to be like him. Think he was all done by under 3. Just have loads of pottys around the house and joggers that are easy to pull down. Or cammando so they can go feral in the garden . good weather for it though

Any tips on a good rose? I really liked one I had in Australia (something from Rockford) but apart from that I’m always disappointed.

Miraval Rose – I think you can get it at M&S. Insanely good.

Esther is right as always, and I’ll add that any Cotes de Provence/Cotes d’Aix-en-Provence rosé is a safe bet so long as it’s that extraordinary pale salmon colour.

Both of my children toilet trained themselves at 9 months and slept through the night from 2 weeks. They never fight with each other, eat anything put in front of them (because I don’t tolerate fussiness) and hate TV (they prefer brain expanding books). Oh, aged 3 and 0, both can play six instruments… Any less, and you’re a failure. As is your child. Got it?

Our daughter calmly took off her diapers on her 2nd birthday, stating she was ‘too big for diapers now’, and that was that. No potty. Our son happily wore his diapers until he was 2 yrs 8 months, before removing them on a lovely July day and never looked back. Never a potty in sight….I work in a kind of kindergarten here in Norway where we have kids age 2-6, so there are always some still wearing diapers, and here in this disgustingly cold climate we always tell the parents to stop the diaper-thing during the summer months, almost regardless of the child’s age…

Good luck’! From experience after 3 is best for boys. An experience mum gave me a book… Put the potty chair in the kitchen. It worked for me, mind you I had a big kitchen. The longer you wait, the less you have night time issuesMO.
