Surfing on the tide of the Nutribullet, err, thing – I found in a Which? magazine lying about in my parents house this interesting Best Buy thing about good blenders.
I was rather intrigued by this, not that I want to buy a blender. I make do with my mini Magimix and my stick blender. And I’d never be arsed to crush ice cubes. And what is with this stupid name? Is the brand name Sage? Sage The Boss?
The only piece of kitchen kit I’m interested in is a ThermoMix, but they look like they take up a hellish amount of space and I live in London where it’s like £4,000 per sq ft, and they’re already about £300. The numbers just don’t add up – even if it can make Hollandaise.
Thermomix! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4yr_etbfZtQ
Sage The Boss just doesn’t create any sort of meaning in my mind as a phrase. When I got my blender it came with a booklet entitled “The Juice Master” which I made the mistake of thinking referred to the blender, but apparently it actually referred to a man called Jason. I only really use mine for soup, and, latterly, banana smoothies (Cheers, Bing)
I have no unit space AT ALL but I have a Thermomix and they are amazing and worth giving up the space. And they’re not THAT big, they just look THAT big on the telly. The hollandaise is worth it… Not to mention the risotto without the endless bloody stirring…
We love the thermomix! Yes quite big but it replaces blender/food processor etc. It can also make a white sauce!
I bought a Breville Blend Active for £22 from John Lewis and it crushes ice cubes and it’s small.
I agree with you about the silly name ‘Sage The Boss To Go’ it’s just so irritating.
I hate to break it to you but you’ll need to shell out three times that for a thermomix!!!
I did think that was very cheap. I thought they were about £1,000. My SIL in Australia has one and it cost her $AUD2,000. Says she uses it all the time though. #hotwetrice
Sage stuff is brilliant. It’s advertised a Heston’s brand, although how much input he had is questionable. I’ve got a Sage Mixer which came with a free Risotto maker/slow cooker. Both are really good quality.
I’ve used a Thermomix for many years. It does nearly everything, and does it very well. Prepares, weighs and cooks. Perfect for hollandaise or soups, sauces etc. Blends at high speed so food rarely needs sieving. Wouldn’t be without it. BUT very expensive!
No. I refuse to get sucked into thermo mix because of their weird sales techniques. Lady at school does endless demonstrations.
I also have storage issues. Have a special high shelf for things like magimix but have ended up getting a small Kenwood nutribullet rip off because it’s such a palaver to get anything down.
Thermomix doesn’t take up that much space, it’s got a square-ish footprint so it tucks in a corner. Certainly less than my stand mixer which I’d like to leave out but can’t justify it.
We got a thermomix about 3 years ago and it’s been brilliant. I don’t cook mains in it but still use it several times a day.
