Kids raincoats

Zinfandel raincoat, £32

Okay look look I know it’s insane – it’s August, it’s actually quite okay weather at the moment – but if you want to get your hands on this very good Autumn rain mac for your kids, you’d better get it now; this is one of those things that goes fast.

It’s made of that superb rubberised material that really properly keeps the rain out and it’s one of those items that’s just, you know… normal.

It’s just a normal, longish navy raincoat (it also comes in a jaunty yellow). It’s not neon or plastered in rotating dinosaurs. Just a boring navy raincoat – at a reasonable price as it’s John Lewis own brand and not Polan O Pyret or Joules: much harder to find than you think, hence the fact it will be sold out by the end of September.

That coat looks awesome, I am ordering it now! on a mini-rant note (sorry), why is it never possible to get good coats like this for girls – just had a quick wizz through the JL girls stuff and nothing. It is all flowery shit, or just too flimsy, or too “fashion”. My little girl wants normal, she wants waterproof and rugged with a fleece lining, she is really fed up with getting second rate stuff just coz she is a girl! It makes me so frustratedfor her ! Ok Rant over (goes to pen seriously f*cked off email to JL and various clothing manufacturers) (but only after I have bought two of the coats, one for the girl, one for the boy)

H&M are worth a look for functional coats and outerwear for girls that aren’t too fussy. I hear what you’re saying though, don’t get me started on shoes.

I am trying to resist the urge to buy this. I bought a jacket for my wee boy on your recommendation last year and we all loved it. But he already has a wee baby rain mac from jojo, and a proper hardcore puddle suit, so that will do him for Autumn 16. Also sorely tempted by the bright yellow, as he’s still baby enough for that, I think, and his other two things are navy and big boys wear a lot of navy, so…. But I can’t spend any more money on rainwear for him. Don’t let me. Elaine x

Like a lot – hard to get a decent mac especially one of standing around on pitches in the pouring rain watching sons play footy! might see what size they go up to – if age 14 may just fit me!?

I reckon it would, yes. John Lewis are generous with their sizes. And you can always send back if too small. Let me know if you do it/how you get on! x

I agree with Anna. Bought one in yellow for my girl. Terrible selection for girls from John Lewis.

Yes I got a yellow one for Kitty. I too can’t bear those giant flower prints everywhere. Ghastly.

Stutterheim are now doing children’s raincoats. Very waterproof.

I have bought a yellow one for my son on your recommendation – it’s gorgeous, thank you!
