I think I’m a bit sick of neon. It has been the essential accent colour in both fashion and interiors for ages now and it’s getting a bit tired. Wearing my gym trainers with their neon blue and pink splashes used to feel really modern. Now it just feels like I’m wearing my stupid gym trainers about.
So I’ve developed a crush on these black and white Nikes. I think they are these from Office. They’re nothing new, they’ve been around for ages, but they suddenly feel like the only trainers to have for AW16. Box fresh white trainers are all very well, but you do have to keep them really clean – or there’s not point. NO point going about in a grey pair of Stan Smiths with grubby laces.
So this rather takes the pressure off, as the trainers are mostly black. One still needs to take care to keep the flash and the sides reasonably muck-free, but with all the practise I’ve had keep my Stan Smiths squeaky clean it will be a breeze.
Speaking of wearing trainers in winter, I have finally caved in and bought some trainer socks. But not any trainer socks! I have got a pair of Wolford “Footsies“, which are really really brilliant and keep your feet nice and snuggly in your trainers whereas otherwise they might become sweaty and slimy. They are totally invisible and truly comfy and I recommend them to you highly. Wolford is the Chanel of hosiery, meaning that each pair of Footsies is a ruinous £9. But they are quality, I promise.
Question about the footsies – do they stay in place? Every pair I’ve tried slide off my heel and end up rolled under my foot

I bought a pair of these for my husband for his birthday 6 months ago, but with grey accents, and thought the same thing. I immediately set about getting myself a pair of b&w for my unbirthday (individuality be damned) but the Roshe style just doesn’t fit me. My usual size is too narrow; the size up flappy and clown-like. I even managed to try a half size which annihilatingly fit one of my feet perfectly but not the other. They did look good though. Good luck to those to whom nature has not been so cruel. Schuh did have some reasonable price drops on that style, and you get a really long run on returns so might be worth a look.
Boy’s Kindergarten teacher wears these all the time. I knew she was pretty ‘cool’ but now I’m sad because I don’t have any, you’ve said they’re awesome and I can’t buy some incase I look like a trainer-copier!! Maybe I’ll get some to only wear at the weekend??
I love these my daughter has the same. But I love trainers full stop. My new Stan Smiths are giving me terrible blisters on my heels which Im gutted about. If anyone has any tips please share otherwise Im going to have to buy some of these and I need to stop spending money!
Stan Smiths ARE a bit inflexible and unforgiving. Compeed is the thing you want to slap on your heels until they break in a bit x
Was about to buy a new pair of Stan Smiths but you’ve stopped me in my tracks. Am off to the Nike website forthwith. And I completely agree about the footsies: I have a similar pair by Falke, another expensive but excellent brand.
Yes, Falke is also brilliant. In fact, were these footsies from Falke OR Wolford? I am worried now
Black Nike Free are my preferred option after ruling out all canvas trainers for shredding my heels. Gap no-show socks are good too, not the basics ones.
I had these in Navy last year. So comfortable. Have got all black New Balance and now I really fancy these too. Can’t even look at my bright ones any more
I have these exact trainers and love them worn with black skinnies turned up to ankle length. I feel fashionable for the first time ever!
