Wooo and lordy and phew there is a lot of hoo haa on my email and Twitter and text and swirling around my head about footwear for the modern fleet-footed here-and-there lady of the daytime.
You’re all in such a tizz about it! Like you are running, running, running, from your future self you know lurks around about in February/March, when you will be wearing UGGs or other wretched but comfortable boots and you will be cosy and warm but hate yourself for a lack of style, dash and smarts.
Brogues! I hear you scream. Crepe-soled wedge-heeled black desert boots!
Where is it? What and where is the shoe that is modern and cosy, non-clackety, non ankle-breaky, PRACTICAL?
Look, I don’t have the answers, okay? I don’t know of a shoe that can take you from a 7am dog-walk through to brunch with a smart friend, a tussle with Waitrose, past the school run, through an unexpected rain storm, round an encounter with that woman you hate and out like an arrow out for cocktails, which will also flatter your big feet, hide your crow’s feet, not make you look like a man and force your fucking hair to behave.
I don’t know of that shoe!
But, while we’re pondering the tragedy of how we all only want one good shoe, but can’t find one, which leads us to buying seven or eight thousand, none of which quite get the job done – let’s have a look at these clog boots from Clarks. Yes, I know Clarks, but no-one will know unless they look very closely, and they are very comfy.

Ledella Abby clog boots, £80
Nothing wrong with Clarks, half my shoes are Clarks and I rather enjoy telling people when they say ” Ooo I like those where are they from?” The only shop you can buy shoes, wear them out of the shop all day and be in comfort….
Talking of fabulous or frumpy, what say you? £15, comes in nice colours, and can be worn as a stole or a scarf – but, you know, it could go either way?!

Another closet Clarks fan here too I bought some amazing silver brogues with ribbon laces from there and they are just the comfiest things ever *nan face*
Am beginning to think we should have our own secret handshake…. or maybe for a new Society of Closet Clarkers?
I have these from Clarks, and have had loads of people asking where they’re from. I’m always a bit sheepish when I answer, but turns out pretty much everyone is a closet Clarks fan. Embrace it! 🙂

What a beautifully sharp description of a typical day. My problem is I want the cocktails to start at 7am, not the bloody dog walk. P.s. Clarks shoes are stealthily brilliant despite their stodgy, soupy, Nora Batty-esque vibe. I have a pair of fur-lined Victorian-style leather boots from them that have lasted six years, they go with everything, and I will be very sad indeed when they trot their last trot.

Bought these at the weekend-look better than the website, super comfy and go with everything.
I really like the look of those Clarks, and would also like to put in a plug for Dansko, not the terrible looking ones worn by medical professionals, but their newer versions, such as the Markie or Maria styles. Comfy and stylish.
Converse All Stars. Sorted.
Clarks is like some kind of dirty little secret but once you fess up, turns out everyone’s at it. Also, M&S insolia is bloody witchcraft, like walking on your own two clouds, I don’t know how they do it…
Clarks are great, particularly if (like me), you have very short, wide feet.
I am a little bit in love (from afar) with these from Ugg http://www.ugg.com/uk/wilcox/1016170.html but can’t quite justify the expense.
