Winter boots

I have decided that right now the only winter boots worth recommending, on the basis of the ranks of shite I saw this morning on my aborted shopping trip, are my UGG ones.

There are two biker styles, which you might like.

This one, which is the one I have

and this one

Take your normal size.

True fashion people swear by Jimmy Choo bikers as the ultimate biker boot. But they are £650 and look like chimney pot city to me.

The jeans I bought are “Straight” jeans from Topshop – here. I got ultimate confirmation that they are great just now from Giles, who absolutely hates them.

I am quite thin at the moment from chest infection starvation diet so around about a size 10 – I got a 28 waist. There’s a bit of a dearth of sizes online, alas :(. All those Jeanne Demas wannabes…

Thanks for this – you are the greatest enabler to debiting money from my account 😀 I went for the Mid Wilcox Uggs in Stout from Office as they were reduced so I saved money right?!?!? Boot economics.

Well, am v.excited to report I have a pair of those Uggs already (the brown pair) from last season and can vouch for them being in the top 5 of BEST BOOTS I HAVE EVER WORN/BOUGHT. Love them. Warm, stylish, good grip, bloody comfortable and I cannot wait to crack them out again for the Autumn/Winter season.

Like the look of those jeans too. Will investigate if I can bear looking like everyone’s mother at Top Shop Oxford Circus, whilst grimacing at ridiculous LOUD muzak.

lolz at Choo Chimney description!! Spot on. I mean, who wants to wear boots that look like chimneys? Not me.

If people aren’t wearing boots for Autumn, what on earth ARE they wearing?!

The Uggs look great. I’m from New Zealand, where Uggs are strictly slippers – my Mum gets quite passionate about this – but I am NOT taking off my warm, cosy Uggs to put on something colder to go outside. I have big feet, big legs so these ones would probably look awful on me. But in theory: two thumbs up.

I’m getting those Uggs! You’ve reminded me that my friend got a brown pair last winter and raved about them.

The Jimmy choo are nice but the silvet buckle on a belstaff would finish off my ultimate dream biker look perfectly … not that I can afford either. Tempted by the Ugg’s though …

I am slightly hesitating as i type this as i deliberately didnt want to get dubarry boots because they are incredibly popular so looked online for an alternative and soooo luckily came across the Spanish Boot Company. V practical and functional but also rather attractive ….the suede ones slightly less functional but you get my drift.Well worth the money i’d say.

Great tip – they look amazing – and they do a size 9, I know what I want for xmas!! I have Dubarrys, which are excellent for horses, walking dogs, mud etc, but a bit clumpy.

Having never written a comment im now going crazy and doing two in one go. Re boots…. and wellington boots. Rather than the sooo common place Hunter wellies, go for Ilse Jacobson. For sale on Amazon and elsewhere, they are danish and both practical, warm and toasty and also v cool looking (in my humble opinion)…

Esther I’m wondering if you could you wear those ‘straight’ jeans with those boots? Or can you just wear skinny jeans with that sort of winter boot and some other sort of ankle bearing shoe with the straights? Ugg.

I think these high waisted straights are probably trainers or loafers only, which means not for the coldest days…

YES, finally something I already own, I’m sure my bank balance will be grateful!
I have the black Uggs, now in their 3rd year and confirm they are warm, comfy and smart enough to wear with lots of outfit styles. Maybe I should consider in a different colour as well….

I think I will still be cold with T shirt plus shirt combo. House is freezing and poor circulation. Ok, cool, will invest in more uniqlo jumpers.

Jenny, I have Raynaud’s syndrome (dead fingers:terrible circulation) and a cold house, and have to say the only way of being warm is silk vest, long sleeves, lots of layers, silk scarf round neck – surprisingly effective – and our mothers’ old fave, jumping up and down. Or, as a grown-up, vacuuming. Dull but effective.
See also: clasping hands round coffee, the warming effects of alcohol, winter sun, Agas (cf spouse, v wealthy), vertical flat-panel radiators to press yourself against. This last is bliss, but you might need several to prevent unseemly shoving from other family members.

I have a pair of cheapish biker boots from the Next girls’ section (they go up to a size 7). I do like them, but I’m now deliberating over these:

I have Ugg Bonham boots – a Chelsea boot style – and they are the best, warmest, most waterproof boots I’ve ever had. But because my work place is full of terrifyingly edgy cool people I try to avoid admitting that they are Ugg. Doc Martens do a similar style I think, which I’m told are waterproof.

    Love your writing, Esther!
