Warninks Advocaat competition!

An unexpected hit over on my Instagram has been this garish but hilarious sweater above, sent to me by Advocaat.

I posted a photo and almost instantly had earnest enquiries about where a copy might be purchased. But they are not purchasable anywhere! For any amount of money!

So I did the only right and proper thing and got onto the PR, pronto, and secured an extra sweater and a bottle of Advocaat for one lucky soul, to be posted out to you in time for Christmas.

And here is a handy Snowball recipe, if you don’t already know how to make one:

Makes 1:

100ml lemonade

70ml Warninks Advocaat

squeeze of fresh lime

 

1 Pour the Advocaat over some ice in a glass

2 Top up with lemonade

3 Squeeze over the fresh lime

  48. I love Advocaat! Or my mother did in the seventies, but I think it was one of the first alcoholic drinks I tasted and didn’t hate.

    And in a nod to becoming a 70’s throwback, don’t really get Instagram and when I do root around in there can never find or see an instastory which always makes me feel like I’m missing out a little XX

    • I think you have to sign up and be signed in to see them – it’s a multicoloured circle round the person’s photo at the top. It’s fun – mostly middle-aged women posting pics of animals, children, food and flowers … and some slim, fashionable people in natty Advocaat jumpers ….

  63. I love advocaat (a little too much) after a long cold stint on the bar at last year’s school Christmas fair where I was taught by an extremely glamorous school grandmother
    a. how to make snowballs
    b. how to drink snowballs
    c. how to apply glittery eyeliner
    d. how to charleston properly
    Advocaat now comes second in my jaded Christmas heart only to John McClane.

Loveliest of Esthers, I don’t love Advocaat as I’ve never tried it (although do think you look pretty bloody awesome in the jumper!) – no doubt I am missing out on a custard-coloured world of goodness – but I did wonder if you might be able to reassure me that I have not completely lost my marbles (most, but not all!)..?

    Scrolling through instagram stories from my sickbed at some point in the past 48 hours I have a recollection that somebody posted a photo of a smallish and rather fancy-looking bottle of whisky and some sort of festive-looking cocktaily-punch-type thing in a rather charming bottle. And I thought to myself “Ooh, The Husband might like one of those in his Christmas stocking” (should we both have grown out of stockings at 33 and 37 respectively?! Err, probably).

    And now I cannot for the life of me a) remember the name of the purveyors of said fancy beverage (usefully all I can remember was two short names with “&” in the middle which isn’t going to get me very far on google!) or b) the person who posted the photo… But I have a feeling it might possibly have been you? Of course it is also possible that I have entirely imagined such concoctions, that there are no such things for sale, and that I am in fact delirious and probably should see a doctor about this tedious sore throat and earache!

    Thanks for another year of amusing posts. I have been following your blogs since the Recipe Rifle days and they are always much enjoyed in this household 🙂

  76. It’s ok, I’m not mad after all! (she said, sounding not at all mad or unhinged). The search is over! The stuff I was thinking of was Mac & Wild “Yuletide”. (Turns out my googling skills are better than I thought.)

    I think actually I could probably do with a generous serving of Yuletide right now…

  80. Esther, also wanted to let you know that I was in Copenhagen last weekend, by myself, and happened upon a large and very chic Aarket store. I nearly took a photo of it to send to you, but didn’t want to look like a tourist. It was very cool inside, lots of lovely things to buy, plus they had a cafe too. I think you’d love Copenhagen, if you haven’t been before. It’s so cool, so much to see and do, plus lots of lovely shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. I can’t wait to visit again xx

I love Advocaat I really really really really love Advocaat and me and my partner are already on our third bottle much to the disgust of my mother who thinks I have broken the family tradition of coming in from church on Christmas Eve, eating gammon sandwiches and having our first snowball. She’s focussed on the snowball tradition rather than the fact I’m an atheist these days which is probably a good thing for her.
