I MEAN … it’s not like I want to BE HER, I’m not a PSY-CHO. Because what could be worse than being a royal? Except for being a jobbing actress in Hollywood, aged 30-someting, amirite?
I just… we just… want a part of it, that’s all. We want Prince Harry – anyone! – to look at us that way. WE WANTED TO BE AT THE PARTY. Not have the door slammed in our faces.
I had so much love to give.
God I can’t talk about it anymore or I will have to start drinking – I have already spent £500 online at John Lewis this morning as a sort of cry for help.
Anyway in my head I am not here, working, diary open, booking babysitters and taxis and frowning at reams of unpaid copy-editing I have agreed to do out of the kindness of my heart, (I think she would do the same), I am embarking on a cultural tour of Florence and am wearing an appropriate outfit for this.
I don’t know why a “cultural tour of Florence”; I am a drooling philistine and Harry and Meghan are going to Namibia on their honeymoon and I’ve been there and the only clothes you can wear there are desert-ready and I’ve done the desert already once this year and I’m actually kind of feeling like Europe now.
Clothing credits:
Panama hat – this one I’m wearing is from Ecuador but I really like the look of this one from Mint Velvet:
If you want to invest in a serious panama hat, try this one from Net:
Here’s my blouse:
It also comes in blue:
Nice generous fit on these blouses, so take your usual size or size down.
Those brocade slides in action:
I cracked and bought a straw bag!!!! At least it’s not round:
Alas the trousers I am wearing are last season Masscob. They have updated versions here, and here, which are dreamy but might not be for everyone, not least because they are over £200.
I bought Hush’s Panama hat last week and can report that it is very good. 👍🏻
Ooh, that’s v interesting. I bought the Gap one recently but it’s too tight (only paid £16 so I don’t feel too guilty), and am now considering Hush for my giant head. I know a properly made hat shouldn’t be cheap but £79 still frightens me a bit.
Sarah you are quite right on this… a properly made hat will be a little bit more – but it’s worth it for a really lovely light one. I wear mine all the time
M&S men’s are pretty good (also have a big head!)
Lou what a brilliant idea! I am often asked about what to do about a larger hatband size…
Thanks, Lou – I will hotfoot it down to Oxford Street tomorrow lunchtime!
Also had party envy, which was dampened by the fact that Corden was mc’ing and Elton did a medley. None of this reflects well on me I realise.
yeah I had it all REALLY bad
Saturday night felt like it did twenty years ago when everyone else was at a party my mum had refused to drive me to. So LEFT OUT.
Distracted myself from wedding envy by escaping abroad and losing myself in The Nest – thanks so much for recommending this book – the consolation of reading about Melody’s teenage birthday party almost made up for the whole mixed bag of emotional overwhelm. Xx
It’s a terrific book isn’t it xxx
Amal and Priyanka and whoever was in that great spotty dress… and the uniforms… and the DOC – I’d have such a laugh with her. I just know it.
I bought a handbag on Saturday night which is usually a sign I’m beginning to unravel.
I would have serious outfit envy if I saw you on the streets on Florence (or, more likely, Norwich) in that.
I just tried on that blouse in TopShop and it is LOVELY but very low cut for anyone considering wearing to an office etc!
I think it depends on your torso – it’s not terribly low-cut on me …
I have been wondering all of yesterday afternoon why clothes fit people so differently, this would come up VERY low cut on me, quite annoying. Also when they recommend v necks for biggish boobs, makes me look like a german barmaid (no offence to them btw)
Marianne, I have the answer! Buy a boob tube a wear over your bra so it hides the deep V of the blouse. Top shop has them in a million colours for £6 and I got a blue/white striped job which I can wear under loads of things. I’m normally the same shape as Esther as I have a long back but in the case the V very nearly came down to my belly button and my boss would have died.
LOL! Yes I have one of those TopShop boob tubes too it’s great, actually very sturdy (if you wear it under something) – I might actually do a post on 8 ways to wear a TopShop boob tube or sthng
they are also BRILLIANT if you are pregnant and can’t find anything long enough or want to wear your normal stuff but there is a gap between the bottom of your tshirt and the top of your trousers. Maternity brands market them as ‘bump bands’ and charge you a fuck load but any old boob tube in a large size will do.
good call
I felt really nostalgic after the wedding and the party would have been fantastic. When he lifted her veil….. gulp.
I am similarly affected by the wedding, been online shopping like something possessed since Sat night. Why????
Also don’t buy a cheap hat…I got a panama for €10 in Île de Re (“100% paper”!) and when it got rained on it turned to papier-mâché
Is Giselle sulking??
No Gisele will be appearing tomorrow
I love everything! Alas I live in Toronto so will have to source it over here, so not to pay 50% in duty. But, hey thanks for all the inspiration. Florence is lovely and temps are perfect right now.
inspiration is 60% of it…
Thank you for saying (writing?!) this aloud. I’ve been in a MM/Amal vortex all weekend and it’s spiraling out of control. SOS!
Everyone is focusing on Amal etc. Did nobody notice the utter glamourpuss on Charles Spencer’s arm? Obvs his 12th wife or something, and SEVERE like V Beckham, but Wowsers!
Ooo I must look her up
I’m so glad you shared about the RW. I was determined to just have a look at the dress and that would be it. Ended up watching nearly all of it, shouting at Victoria Beckham to “just crack a smile already………would it kill you etc”, getting teary when I saw how fantastic her mum looked and weeping when she walked down the aisle and she got that look……………!
I am resolutely single and happy to be so, but every now and then I fantasise about having a wedding, not being married, just being a gorgeous, beautiful bride………….lovely.
Sharon Doria absolutely floored me too. Sitting there all on her own, clearly thinking “THIS IS INCRED OMG OMG LOOK AT MY BABY GIRL THIS IS INCRED”
I just bought a fab hat recommended by @rvk_loves from ASOS £14! Absolute bargain
Rebecca is very good on a bargain
