… about boots. I have FOUND SOME BOOTS I CAN WEAR.
I was on a shoot for my M&S column today and they had these black buckley boot things and they are utterly tremendous in every way. DO NOT DISMISS THEM! because you think they will be clumpy or look odd or be uncomfortable. They just look entirely modern and way, way more expensive than they actually are, which is £75.
They are also not heavy and extremely comfortable and soft and will require no breaking in whatsoever. The magic about them for me is that they taper slightly at the ankle, so I do not look like I am wearing bins or flowerpots on my feet, just a very good pair of boots.
They will add a touch of menace to any outfit, (which I find is pretty much essential if I am going to get through the day), and allow you to wear midi-dresses and skirts well into December because they will keep your feet warm and dry and will not instantly stain and crumple on contact with this country’s winter weather policy (rain for 3 months, then freeze).
Probably the best part is that they also come in half sizes. Get a pair. Get a pair now.
I like those. I need some new black boots for winter because I THREW MINE AWAY in a fit of pique after a particularly fraught encounter with some dog leavings for the umpteenth time. There was gravel involved, forming a kind of shitty cement, and I just couldn’t bear dealing with it. It might not have happened if my mum had made me do chores as a child. (They were well past their best and had been reheeled more than once before anyone condemns me out of hand)
I like M&S for shoes lately, I’m really settling into the idea. I appreciate half sizes so much, what with my bad feet (said like Norman Stanley Fletcher)
I like the look of these and am still restocking my shoe collection after I went up a bloody size post pregnancy. I’m sure I’ve moaned out this on here before so I won’t bore you.
I mostly came on here to say I’m 99.9% sure boots + small calves don’t make your bum look huge. I’m just certain this is not the case. For a start, how would you even know unless you were someone photographed v. often from behind while out and about, which I’m fairly certain you’re not. Elaine x
I will try these boots, your recommendations always work for me. I almost wish you hadn’t directed me the Arket website though… my children already have plenty of clothes but GODDAMMIT those polka dot tights!! The merino jumpers! No cartoons and no weirdness and not £££££. Thank you again x
Just bought them in Burgundy, collecting tomorrow. Think I’m gonna be happeeeee
Esther, I salute you for picking out the only decent boots in M&S.
Yesterday I trekked to my nearest large branch (Moorgate) to seek them out as, weird I know, I like to see before I order.
Obviously they did not have them.
ALL the other boots were hideous.
The nice M&S lady informed me Moorgate has not seen these boots and there are only a few other size 6s available in other London M&S shops.
So I gave in and ordered online and now I have my winter boots in August.
For some reason people don’t go to shops anymore, can’t think why.
Previously you also picked out the only nice sandals made by Teva.
Thank you so much!
funny you should say that – I have been in to about 12 different shops that might sell kids’ welly boots and NONE of them have welly boots. Why don’t any shops sell welly boots? is it because they take up too much stock space for how much they sell for or some other sinister bottom-line reasoning??
I had them in my basket, I had the £5 shoe discount. Then they went out of stock aaaaagh. I have a ghastly dress to return so I’ll report back whether the stock locating thing on the M&S website is accurate – it shows 1 pair in my size in each colour.
M&S in store availability is not accurate. The boots are really nice tho, I rammed on a pair a size too small. Hopefully they will come back into stock.
Just to say a huge thanks for the heads up on these boots! My order arrived this morning and I blinking love them, I’m not generally one for buying into others recommendations but these are just perfect!
