Toys at John Lewis

I’ve had a little scout around the John Lewis Black Friday thing and it is a little uninspiring, they’re certainly not really giving it away; but I think it would serve you well on a bit of toy shopping…

Here are a few things that I know my kids have liked in the past/would like now.

This Playmobil kit is actually cheaper at JLP than on Amazon:

Both Sam and Kitty played with our version of this for about 6 months solid, when they were a year old or so:

A classic. Not just for girls. Sam had loads of trouble learning to walk and he leant on one of these, like a tiny zimmerframe, for about 6 months.

Actual heaven for a certain kind of kid.

I gave away Sam’s Duplo because I thought he was now too old for it and he noticed and was really upset – might get him this to say sorry.

And utterly surreal series of books my kids were hooked on

Smyth’s toys have some great deals online today with good deals on Lego. My girls are Lego mad at the moment.

John Lewis rather than toy related: I was in the Oxford St store yesterday around noon and the queue for the personalised Quality Street tins was at least 30 people deep! I abandoned that mission but will try again this evening, without the over-excited 7 yr old. Just a heads up to any Spiker keen to get a tin with no purple/ green/ toffee pennies etc etc

I had the same dilemma with Duplo, because they have really outgrown it and are more into Lego and Playmobil but decided on keeping it as every now and then the stars align and they get it out and have a really good game with it building bigger structures. God those Dinosaur Rescue books yes they loved them brrm brrm! If anyone is contemplating Playmobil for the first time the camper van and holiday stuff is played with all the time here, and the toy bin lorry is one of the best examples of its kind, if you have a child that is obsessed with such things (memories of having to pretend to BE a bin lorry, shudder)

The trip trap car ramp is fantastic. Give me a pre-school child with poor language skills and I can work on turn-taking/waiting/anticipation/colours/single words/2 words together/choice/eye contact/response to name……………….fab!

I went in this afternoon before reading this and selected this exact playmobil set! (after a quick Amazon check). Also got some duplo the same price as Amazon – so that’s one less parcel to wait in for. They had a discount on micro scooters too if anyone is after one of those

Oh I am so glad it’s not just my kids who are hooked on the really weird dinosaur books. We’ve had Dinosaur Rocket every night for honestly about a year – wtf? I think I’ll extend our Penny Dale collection, cheers
