Sunshine cardigan

I REALLY recommend this cardigan to you.

This is a really lovely warm sunshine/egg yolk colour with a nice boxy shape, fun pockets and it’s warm. I wear it with a pair of wide jeans and a white t-shirt and it feels really now but also a tiny bit hopeful and springlike. I am a size 10/12 and take a 34 C bra and I got mine in a size M for a loose fit. There are plenty of all sizes still available.

Iris and Ink is, just generally, a slightly overlooked brand. It’s the most terrific quality and is on-trend without some of the batshit crazy details you get with designer clothes.

It’s lovely but sadly can’t wear wool makes me want to scratch myself silly. On the wide leg jeans front though – do you have any recommendations?

Kate it’s a wool/acrylic mix and not even 1% remotely itchy. Wide leg jeans post coming soon! (spoiler… it’s trial and error…)

Christ, I have just been buying jeans. Previously I would do a thorough physical jeans shop and then order whatever was not available to try on, but this time it’s been all online, which means HUGE parcels (my poor, poor postman) and jeans I dismiss for how they feel without even trying them on, plus hundreds of quid on my card waiting for refunds, or for the x jean in y colour to eventually turn up to be compared with the second favourite. And huge parcels to be returned. It has been horrendous.
And I got caught out buying a pair in a shop just before Christmas, thinking I’d go back in January … well, I can’t return them until lockdown finishes, whenever that may be, so I am out of pocket and have to keep them and their receipt safe somewhere AND then find them and return them in 2022 …

Your piece in the Times (at least I’m 99.9% sure it was you) this week about being all things to your children during lockdown was eerily accurate. I don’t want to be my child’s teacher, I would just like to be his mother and only be irritated or inspired or upset or feel tender towards him within that relationship rather than this other role I am woefully unsuited and under qualified for. Also, I feel like my life has disappeared under the weight of everyone else’s … I thank God every day for my dog who refuses to let anyone else walk her so I can play my get out of jail card twice a day.

That’s lovely. I’ve been buying a lot of things in yellow, it is definitely an attempt to manifest hope I think on my part, though in addition to the comfort eating I might come out of this looking like the honey monster between hairdressing appointments. Also interested in wide leg jeans as they are my scene.

Thanks for the mid-day cardigan distraction, Esther!
On a slightly different subject, I’m wondering where they get the soooo cool & chic clothes in the “Call My Agent” series?

Just read a piece in the Guardian about this – the answer is, of course, ‘everywhere’, but worth a read: https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2021/jan/22/lessons-in-french-style-from-call-my-agent

Loved the line in above programme ” all the girls live on birdseed and sit around scowling” or similar words!

Looking forward to your jeans post, as my most recent pair of Hush Agnes jeans have lost their elastic. I have seen these, but they are substantially more than I would pay for jeans but keep thinking that they look lush. What do you think?

These are great! All Me+E stuff is terrific and amazing quality. You could wear those in the winter with great big stompy boots if you have them. The sizing is very generous so take one down from your usual

So many style posts in one week which has left me dancing with glee! My cardi has just arrived and I love it – thank you. I’m even feeling brave enough to try some wide jeans. Do you wear it open, or if not, which buttons do you do up?
