Stop what you are doing right now and get yourself 2 really important things for the oncoming brighter weather. (I don’t want to say “sunshine” because I don’t want to jinx it.)
The first is a pair of mid-height Teva sandals. I really fancied a pair of these last year and they were sold out everywhere, so like the little pig in the story, I bought mine in February this year. Get yours now. They are on sale at Office and I waited until I had worn them a bit to make sure that they are not ridiculous or uncomfortable and they are neither, they are utterly brilliant with a modern jazzy pattern (Other colours and patterns are available.)
The other thing I recommend to you highly is the Sonia Dakar Face Shield in SPF 30. I don’t like a tinted SPF as in summer I like to go about as bare-faced as possible. The idea of make-up all sliding around and sweating off my big red sweaty face is really unappealing.
So I need an SPF for my face, as I can get burnt in the time it takes for the spring sun to peek out from behind a cloud then go back in again, which isn’t standard body suncream. Even a high-end body sunscreen will give me spots so terrible I will be declared a biohazard by Defra. This facial SPF is an absolute delight, scentless and melting into the skin, leaving a flattering luminous sheen and no white cast. I used it all last summer and was so pleased with it, but couldn’t pass on the recommendation because it was completely sold out. Hurrah, then, for being too organised because it is now back in stock at Cult Beauty.
Tevas not for me but have ordered the SPF-expecting great things as my skin sounds v similar to yours!
It’s such a joy to use
Oh, cool! Thank you for this, Esther. I do have nice Birkenstocks but sometimes I don’t feel like clomping about with cork tied to my feet like a penitent monk or something. The spf one also looks good. I usually go for the La Roche Posay Anthelios, but I fancy a change. Has anyone tried the Glossier Face Shield?
Yes just recently I took a gamble on it after procrastinating. Really recommend it. It is truly invisible and lightweight. No white sheen and feels nice on
Ah good! Thank you 🙂
Damn you and your retail enabling. But also, thank you, as my only sandals are falling to bits. Have ordered the Tevas in plain black, only because the multi-coloured ones are sold out in my size.
consider me influenced. theyre also available on evil amazon if you cannot get your size.
I’ve ordered the Tevas in plain black – can’t wait. My poor wfh feet blister at the sight of anything that’s not my most ancient, battered Stan Smiths right now. Need to work on some callouses for the summer.
Ah that’s great, thanks for the reminder – I’d forgotten my yearning last year for the midforms when they were all sold out! I have a pair ordered now, a pair of khaki chinos from cos, and just need a white shirt now to see me through the Summer.
I think it’s the lack of silicones (hurray!) with in this formula that will prevent the skin woes. I’m in the same boat, but it’s nary impossible to find things without silicones, or the other snake oil of today, hyaluronic acid (although I feel that I’m howling into the void on this one.) I’d be very interested in this Sonya Dakar SPF although I also had a good experience with Heliocare Fernblock last summer.
I’m also interested in sellers other than Cult Beauty — I’m now completely fine with declared #AFs, but this whole “curated beauty box” business they’re pushing makes me very queasy.
Ordered the tevias in black and multi coloured. Great having a student in the house. 20 % discount!
