Last time I looked it was March. Then it rained for what felt like 6 weeks and now it’s the middle of June! Term will end any minute now and we’ll be back in the summer holidays, my least favourite time of year.
And so the only thing to do is go shopping. My son Sam, who is now eight, still requires a very certain type of summer short. They must not be stiff or slim or have a button-fly closure but be able to be pulled on easily over ample buttock-and-thigh.
The search lead me into H&M in real life, as opposed to on the website where trying to fathom any detail about any clothes is impossible – you may as well buy things totally at random – and I found some good things that I thought I would share with you.
1 The Linen Short
It took me about twenty minutes to find these “tailored shorts” on the H&M website and they are easily missed so I really feel like I am doing you a favour by directing you to these, which are very light and comfortable but also smart enough to be worn with a clean shirt or a t-shirt for dinner, if we’re ever allowed to go on bloody holiday.
2 The smart shirt
I was also super impressed by the quality of this grandad shirt. Sam has zero smart clothes and I mean zero – it’s school uniform, cricket kit or PJs, and he needs at least one smartish thing to own so that he can wear it once and then it can be eaten by moths at the back of a cupboard and eventually recycled next January.
3 A co-ord!
While shopping for stuff for Sam I came across a great shorts-and-shirt set for Kitty – I often find much better clothes for her in the boys’ sections of shops. The shorts are here and below it will suggest to you the matching t-shirt.
4 Something for you?
The cosmetics brand Becca are closing, which is incredibly sad as they were really good. Their cult product, the under-eye brightener, is now sold out most places, but they still have some stock on Asos.com. My editor at T2 Vanessa has been telling me to get this for years and I never did and now they’re closing down. It really is kind of the story of my life.
Thank you for your recon! Alas the shorts are still elusive – your link goes to the main H&am site:
H, if you put ‘tailored shorts’ into the H&M search box and filter by ‘kids’ you should find them. They”re actaully cotton but look like linen.
Oh Sophie thank you for this. I have tried to correct the link but it keeps going to the landing page. I’ve got major brain fuzz, you’re very kind to step in
What, Becca are closing. Anyone know of a good alternative to the under eye brightener? 4 years of sleep deprivation mean it’s an absolute essential!
Oh thank you this is exactly what I needed. As an aside I seem to have stopped getting emails notifying me of new posts, I just randomly checked here because I thought it had been a while and have missed loads. I don’t think I unsubscribed – it does not sound like something I would do – but will check.
Oh dear! You’re not the first person to tell me this. But also I am struggling to find inspiration to write anything so no one is missing much
I’ve had to buy new tevas, a sloggi bra and a stripy top all in one go, now the kid’s going to have to stay in his football kit.
Beauty Pie’s Superluminous Undereye Genius is a very good dupe for the Becca under eye creme
